Successful topping out event for new 117 bed purpose-built student accommodation development, Sycamore House, Leeds, that is on track and on budget for opening in September 2018 and over 90% let
Crosslane Student Developments, part of the Crosslane Group, celebrated the topping out of its Sycamore House development in Leeds on 24 May 2018, which will open on time and on budget for the start of the 2018/19 academic year, following a tight twelve-month construction timetable that began in September 2017. The new development has an expected gross development value of approximately £15 million upon practical completion.
The ceremony was conducted by Robert Goulsbra, Senior Development Manager for Crosslane Student Developments and Gary Walton, Managing Director of Torsion Group, and attended by the team of agents, contractors and professional partners working on the project, along with other members of the Crosslane team.
The site is located to the north west of Leeds city centre, in a residential area on the corner of Woodhouse Square and Claremont Avenue, and directly opposite Woodhouse Square Park. The University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University and Leeds city centre are all within half a mile of the property and therefore only a short walk away.
Prime Student Living, the student accommodation lettings and operational management arm of Crosslane, is responsible for booking reservations during the construction phase and will continue to manage the building following completion, with a focus on resident welfare and experience to ensure students make the most of their time at university.
Bookings at the new development have surpassed expectations and over 90% of rooms have already been let, reflecting the strong demand for high specification student accommodation in the city, which has a full-time student population of over 51,000. Leeds has four Higher Educational Institutions, with students enrolled at Leeds University (a Russell Group university ranked 13th in The Times Good University Guide 2017), Leeds Beckett University, Leeds College of Art, and Leeds Trinity University, making it one of the largest student cities in Britain. With continued increases in the student population, demand for well-located, premium purpose-built student accommodation in the city continues to increase and outstrip supply.
The high-quality development comprises five stories of residential accommodation containing 117 luxury en-suite, self-contained studio apartments, ranging from 20sqm to 38sqm. The exterior has been designed to complement the surrounding Georgian style properties within the conservation area of Woodhouse Square, with bedrooms surrounding a central private courtyard, landscaped for residents to use for outdoor collaborative working or relax and enjoy.
Internally, the boutique design and high specification of the scheme includes shared communal facilities and amenity spaces to encourage students to work collaboratively and make new friends as part of their university experience, such as a common room, study areas, gym and a luxury kitchen/dining/entertaining room. Students will also benefit from superfast 100 Mbps broadband and Wi-Fi and cycle storage.
