Lorien Builds
On Success With Move Into Commercial Sector
Lorien Engineering Solutions is consolidating
its position as a leading multi-disciplinary engineering design
and project management organisation by bringing its expertise
to the commercial sector.
As the skills shortage in the commercial construction sector continues
to blight companies at every level, Lorien has announced that
it will be bringing its mechanical and electrical engineering
expertise to the industry. The Lichfield based business currently
has a staff of more than 60 specialists who design and deliver
manufacturing capital projects and performance improvement consultancy
in the brewing, drinks, food, pharmaceutical and waste management
industries.
Long-standing customers include Coors Brewers, Walkers Snack Foods,
InBev UK, Biffa and Unilever, as well as a number of leading pharmaceutical
companies.
Lorien’s move into the sector could not come at a more opportune
time; a 2005 Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) survey revealed
that 65% of members questioned felt that the current workforce
was not sufficiently skilled. Lorien’s Bill Miles said:
“Truly skilled engineers are very hard to find and coupled
with that, apprenticeships are drying up. Lorien can offer teams
of qualified engineers with multi-disciplinary experience. We
are keen to work with surveyors and developers around the UK,
and we have opened dialogue with practices at both a regional
and national level. There is clearly a mutuality issue here as
we will require support from time to time from the very people
who we need to work with.”
Lorien has been having a buoyant time of late, with above budget
performance for the past two years, at a time when many companies
of a similar profile have been struggling. Bill Treddenick, director
responsible for the sales and marketing of Lorien comments that,
“For the past decade we have been focussing very strongly
on building durable partnerships with our clients. During the
past year the company has enjoyed strong growth and obtained a
repeat business level of almost 85%. This level of client loyalty
is achieved principally by ensuring clients get the best level
of service they can obtain from the marketplace, and listening
to what they tell us. For example, over the past 15 years we have
undertaken annual customer reviews, in which clients score Lorien’s
key performance indicators. In the last review cycle, of the nine
KPI’s measured, ‘Partnership approach’ was scored
most highly, followed by ‘Overall performance’ and
‘Project management’. This process further reinforces
the good client-supplier communications and irons out any minor
issues there may be. Lorien’s aim is to bring this same
level of service, so successfully delivered to our current core
sectors, to the Commercial Construction sector as well.”
