Luxo
fittings operate in real time
The
offices of innovative software developer Real Time Worlds in Dundee
are making use of a wide selection of luminaires from Luxo UK
to create a comfortable and energy-efficient working environment.
Real Time Worlds specialises in the development of leading-edge
technology for multi-player online gaming. The company has recently
moved into new shell and core premises in Dundee which, in a fast-track
project, have been fitted out to their own specification. The
property comprises a mixture of cellular and open plan accommodation
and the lighting was specified and installed by contractor DH
Morris to meet the needs of each space. The lighting is controlled
by a combination of manual on/off switching, automatic switching
and dimming controls.
Kevin Birnie of BBH Consultants, who designed the project with
the expert help of Luxo’s technical manager, Steve Willis,
commented “In the offices it was essential to comply with
the requirements of LG7 and the client also required the ability
to dim the luminaires. Luxo’s X-type luminaires proved to
the ideal solution, offering high light output with very good
glare control and a stylish visual appearance. Thanks to Luxo’s
wide range of products the ideal luminaires for the complete installation
were sourced from a single supplier.
For the board room, Real Time Worlds required additional visual
interest as well as efficient lighting and these needs were met
by Luxo’s boldly designed Onda system. Onda is a suspended
modular system with a very striking appearance, which provides
indirect, diffuse lighting. Each module consists of an electrical
support which houses the reflector, light sources and control
gear.
The Onda fittings are supplemented with Silvy wall mounted luminaires
creating a versatile lighting scheme for the board room that can
be adjusted to suit a variety of activities.
Bill Cochrane from the electrical contractor DH Morris commented”
We have been very pleased with the service and support we received
from Luxo, which ranged from design and technical support to very
fast delivery. In the case of Real Time Worlds, we required delivery
of all lighting products within a three week timescale and Luxo
didn’t let us down”.

RIDI In Pole Position
At Silverstone Innovation Centre
The ALE luminaire from RIDI is
bringing a combination of timeless style, versatility and performance
to office space at the newly opened Silverstone Innovation Centre
near Oxford. The popular ALE luminaire is providing a fully compliant
LG7 lighting scheme to ensure that a pleasant and effective work
space is enjoyed by all personnel at the centre.
A joint venture between the owners of the British Racing Drivers
Club (owners of Silverstone) and the East Midlands Development
Agency (EMDA), the Centre is located at the world famous Silverstone
Circuit. Designed to provide a serviced environment for engineering
and motor sport related businesses, it is a high-specification
office space laid out over three floors, with a range of conference
and meeting rooms available for external hire.
Contractors IEI of Basingstoke specified around 400 ALE luminaires
for the project. In the open plan areas the luminaires are connected
end-to-end with dummy modules to form a continuous architectural
feature. The range features a series of accessories that facilitates
creation of lighting ‘runs’ and shapes to fit in with
individual requirements. At the Innovation Centre there are also
suspended ALE luminaires in the cellular offices.
The ALE is a winning blend of affordability, performance and reliability
which offers the lighting specifier and contractor an easy method
of varying the direct / indirect light ratio for LG7 compliance.
The open aperture in the top can also be fitted with optional
snap-in top covers to reduce the ratio of upward light. There
are three different sizes to allow the upward light element to
be varied between 10 and 30%, in addition to the standard open
50% level. With a low-profile depth of just 60mm, the ALE series
provides unobtrusive and functional design that blends perfectly
into any environment. A rigid, scratch-resistant housing makes
the range ideal for the public sector lighting specifier or designer
seeking the benefits of architectural lighting – but at
an affordable price.
