AFI-Uplift
Boom Shines For Window Cleaning Contract
With the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo’s
innovative landmark building being constructed in highly-reflective
glass, it is essential to keep it sparkling clean – and
that’s where a powered access machine from AFI-Uplift came
into its own.
PG Ashcroft (Window Cleaning & Maintenance Services) hired
an AFI-Uplift boom lift over three days to help their operatives
give the whole exterior of the newspaper’s offices a thorough
wash and clean.
AFI-Uplift’s 16m Haulotte H16TPX boom was used to its full
capacity to clean the cylindrical glass building. PG Ashcroft
not only took advantage of the boom’s full height, but also
made use of its 9.2m outreach to provide quick, easy and safe
access.
Peter Ashcroft, of PG Ashcroft, said: “It was not simply
the height we were after but also the flexibility and manoeuvrability,
which we got from the AFI boom. AFI also always advise us on which
equipment is best suited for each job and have trained our operatives
in the safe use of the equipment. All this enables us to work
safely, efficiently and cost-effectively.”

Initial
Is Flying High With Nilfisk-Advance
Nilfisk-Advance and Initial Air Services
have landed a prestigious cleaning contract at Nottingham East
Midlands Airport (NEMA). High productivity cleaning machines from
the Nilfisk range, including the BR 800S ride-on scrubber/dryer
and SW 700S B pedestrian sweeper, are helping Initial’s
specialist cleaning team keep floors inside the award-winning
airport in pristine condition for staff and the five million or
so passengers who use NEMA every year.
Part of the Manchester Airports Group, NEMA was voted ‘Best
UK Airport’ at the 2005 British Travel Awards, and maintaining
a smart image is a key objective for the airport’s management
team. Initial Air Services already uses Nilfisk-Advance floor
cleaning machines at Manchester Airport, so was delighted to be
awarded the contract at NEMA. “Nilfisk’s high quality
equipment and our specialist cleaning expertise are clearly a
winning combination,” says Freda Smith, Regional Manager
for Initial Air Services. “The support we’ve received
from Nilfisk has also been excellent, and in fact its installation
team worked through the night before the contract started to ensure
everything went smoothly.”
Initial Air Services is responsible for cleaning hard floors and
carpeted areas throughout the busy airport, including the departure
lounge and restaurants, which are subject to heavy footfall and
everyday spills and stains. Among the Nilfisk machines being used
at NEMA is the BR 800S ride-on scrubber/dryer, which scrubs large
floors and picks up all the dirty solution in a single pass, leaving
the surface clean, dry and safe to walk on. For tackling smaller
areas, Nilfisk’s BA 410 walk-behind scrubber/dryer provides
a compact and easy to use option. It is suitable for all types
of hard floors and can even be used for stripping tasks.
The scrubber/dryers used on the contract are complemented by the
versatile SW 700S B sweeper from Nilfisk-Advance, which delivers
excellent dust-free cleaning on hard and carpeted floors. Six
times more productive than a broom, the SW 700S B has a theoretical
productivity rate of 3,200m2/h. Initial’s comprehensive
equipment package at NEMA is completed with a selection of single
disc floor maintenance machines and vacuum cleaners from the Nilfisk-Advance
range.

Chamber Of Commerce And Industry Renews OCS Contract To Care For
Head Office
Leading property support service provider,
OCS Engineering, has landed a new three-year care contract to
maintain the headquarters of the London Chamber of Commerce &
Industry (LCCI). The prestigious deal builds on a 10-year relationship,
which began when OCS predecessor, (BES), won the initial LCCI
contract.
The new arrangement will see the OCS engineering and technology
support division continuing the critical and sensitive task of
maintaining the LCCI head office at 33 Queen Street in the heart
of the City.
The contract win comes after a rigorous competitive tendering
programme and covers full engineering and technical maintenance
for critical building systems including HVAC, fire protection,
building maintenance systems, power and water services for the
landlord and tenants.
Announcing the prestigious win, managing director of OCS Engineering,
Richard Burl, said, "This is a very high profile contract
because the quality of our support is visible to the thousands
of business and industry leaders who visit the building every
year and we are delighted with this recognition of our commitment
to professionalism."
The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been at the hub
of the capital’s business success since it was formed in
1881 and currently has some 3,500 members.
The Queen Street HQ is, in fact, the Chamber’s sixth head
office in the City of London as the organisation has grown to
keep pace with London’s role as one of the world’s
key financial and commercial centres.
Through many historic milestones, in more than a century of supporting
London business, the London Chamber established one of the first
conciliation services in industrial relations and began arguing
the case for decimal currency as long ago as the 1880’s.
It has also formed specialist interest groups such as the Women
in Business Group in 1991 and the Asian Business Association in
1995.
