A
new product range from Emmeti UK perfectly fits the current drive
to improve water efficiency. Known as flow restrictors, the range
offers a choice of three ratings, all for 15mm pipework and at
the same price. Suitable for washrooms and compliant with EcoHomes
requirements, they meet its 2006 environmental rating and contribute
to its "Wat 1 Internal Potable Water Use" credit scoring
system.
Rated 8, 10 and 18 litre/min, the restrictors can be used with
showers, baths, washbasins, sinks, dishwashers and other water
outlets. They incorporate fixed-orifice plates and will maintain
designated flow-rates to conserve water (unless designated flow-rates
are lower than the number of litre/min required, in which case
restrictors need not be fitted).
Location of the new Emmeti restrictors is downstream of its integrated
service isolators and Y-type strainers, easing servicing without
removing in-line units, and prolonging their life. The 8 and 10
litre/min units incorporate single check valves to prevent backflow,
avoiding the fitting of separate check valves, although the 18
litre/min model comes without this facility.
(The EcoHomes 2006 environmental rating is under review and expected
to be incorporated in further upgrading of the building regulations
part L. From last April, the Code for Sustainable Homes has replaced
EcoHomes for all new housing, whereas EcoHomes 2006 continues
in use for refurbished housing in England and for all housing
in Scotland and Wales.)
With Water Research Advisory Scheme approval pending, and Water
Research Centre approval for the ball valve seat, the restrictors
are made of nickel-
plated brass, with chrome-plated brass isolators, stainless steel
strainer mesh and brass strainer access cap. Maximum operating
temperature is 95oC, maximum operating pressure 10 bar and maximum
test pressure 16 bar.
