Paxton
Access, the leading manufacturer of access control systems,
introduces Net2 nano
Net2
nano demonstrates Paxton Access’ commitment to developing
intelligent access control products relevant and useful
for today’s security industry. Net2 nano is a new
wireless single door access control unit designed to extend
the possibilities of Net2, Paxton Access’ networked
access control system.
Net2 nano removes the need for hardwiring between door controllers
and a PC by replacing a wired connection with a wireless
one. Simply connect a Net2Air USB bridge to the Net2 server
PC and it will pick up and communicate with the Net2 nano
control units in range. There is a secure pairing procedure
to ensure that nobody else can connect to your control units.
Extremely economical; Net2 nano can be used to secure all
doors on small sites quickly and easily, reducing installation
cost and making it perfect for open plan office layouts.
If greater distances need to be covered and there is an
existing LAN/WAN then a Net2Air Ethernet bridge can be used.
The unit plugs into a standard RJ45 network port and can
be placed around a site and linked back to the PC via the
LAN/WAN.
A limit of 10 Net2 nano control units per Ethernet or USB
bridge and a maximum of 200 Net2 nano control units per
site is recommended.
Ever adept at creating smart solutions to make installation
easy, Paxton Access has also designed the Net2Air site surveyor
kit; the essential tool for faultless Net2 nano installation.
The site surveyor checks signal strength between the Net2
nano and a Net2Air bridge prior to installation which means
installers are guaranteed total accuracy when fitting a
Net2 nano.
Adam Stroud, Sales and Marketing Director at Paxton Access,
says: “Net2 nano can be used in conjunction with our
Net2 plus and Net2 classic control units for access points
that are tricky to cable to such as gates, barriers and
remote buildings. Of course Net2 nano control units can
be used exclusively on a site doing away with the need for
any network cable at all. Because the wireless environment
is different at every site, we strongly recommend installers
use our Net2Air site surveyor tool before installing.”

Paxton
Access, the leading manufacturer of access control systems,
introduces Net2 plus
Net2
plus is the dynamic new addition to the Paxton Access Net2
family; a single door access control unit with advanced
functionality. Net2 plus represents Paxton Access’
dedication to developing forward thinking access control
products that exceed their customers’ expectations.
Net2 plus has an on-board RJ45 socket so it can be connected
to a TCP/IP network in the same way as any other IP device.
This reduces equipment costs and installation time for projects
where there is an existing computer network.
The Net2 plus control unit can also be used as a TCP/IP
to RS485 converter. Net2 plus plugs straight into the network
and a dedicated cable can be run to an additional daisy
chain of Net2 classic control units.
This makes it ideal for extending Net2 if wiring proves
difficult or it is not possible to get a network point exactly
where you want it.
As the specifications of the control unit are developed,
existing sites will be able to take advantage of its increased
functionality, future proofing your investment.
Net2 plus is the perfect control unit for installations
where requirements may grow over time.
Net2 plus can also be mixed with Net2 nano and Net2 classic
control units on a site for the most effective solution
for each situation.
Adam Stroud, Sales and Marketing Director at Paxton Access,
says: “The Net2 plus control unit has on-board TCP/IP
meaning that it just pops straight onto the network. Not
only is this very convenient for installation but it also
removes the need for an expensive TCP/IP to RS485 adapter.
I believe that Net2 plus will appeal to the growing number
of installation companies familiar with TCP/IP networking.”

Paxton
Access showed their newly released access control units,
Net2 plus and Net2 nano, at IFSEC 2009
Released
to the market in April, these eagerly awaited additions
to the Net2 range provide even more flexibility when specifying
or installing an access control system.
Net plus and Net2 nano have been designed to extend the
possibilities of Net2, Paxton Access’ networked access
control system.
Net2 plus is a new control unit for the Net2 access control
system. It has an on-board RJ45 socket to connect to a TCP/IP
network in the same way as any other IP device, removing
the need for a separate piece of hardware. This diverse
control unit can also be used as a TCP/IP to RS485 converter
for when it is not possible to get a network point exactly
where you want it. While the current specification of Net2
plus is the same as the other Net2 control units, it is
likely to be increased in the future. Using Net2 plus means
your client’s investment is future proofed. As Net2
plus develops, existing sites will be able to take advantage
of its increased functionality.
Net2 nano is a wireless control unit for the Net2 access
control system. Net2 nano removes the need for hardwiring
between door controllers and a PC by replacing a wired connection
with a wireless one. Simply connect a Net2Air USB bridge
to the Net2 server PC and it will pick up and communicate
with the Net2 nano control units in range. A limit of 10
Net2 nano control units per Ethernet or USB bridge and a
maximum of 200 Net2 nano control units per site is recommended.
Paxton Access demonstrated both of these fantastic new products,
on their stand at IFSEC.

BSIA
overseas event welcomes royal visitor
The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) welcomed
HRH Prince Michael of Kent to its hugely successful Meet
the Buyers event held at IFSEC.
The royal guest visited the event in his role as Patron
of the BSIA’s Export Council to gain an insight into
the work of the Export Council and meet with some of the
BSIA members and overseas buyers.
Chris Pinder, BSIA Export Manager, comments: "We were
delighted to welcome HRH Prince Michael of Kent to IFSEC
this year. His presence and his role as our patron demonstrates
the important contribution that UK security companies make
to the British economy and ensured a unique and memorable
experience for the overseas buyers that attended."
The BSIA Meet the Buyers event was held for the third consecutive
year at IFSEC and provides overseas visitors with the chance
to meet with potential suppliers through a series of face-to-face
private sales meetings, providing an excellent opportunity
for UK security providers to market themselves.
This year’s Meet the Buyers saw 120 buyers and commercial
officers attending from countries around the world.

Sorex
Wireless transforms mobile phone into electronic key
Sorex
Wireless has developed the wirelessKey, an innovative application
that transforms almost any bluetooth-enabled mobile telephone
into an electronic key. “The advantages of the system
include its suitability for daily use, security and ease
of operation. There is no need to reconfigure that handset
that will be used as the electronic key," explains
Sorex founder and CEO, Christian Csank. All the technology
is housed in the Sorex Wireless bluetooth module which communicates
with the mobile phone. Each handset is registered once and
is then automatically identified according to its unique
Bluetooth MAC address. The Sorex wirelessKey is already
in operation throughout the German-speaking world.
Premium version for businesses
Specifically designed for businesses, the professional version
of Sorex wirelessKey can accommodate up to 1,000 users per
console. Access rights are managed centrally via the company’s
network using software developed by Sorex. This means that
rights can be added or revoked at any time simply by pressing
a button.
Slimline consumer version
One advantage of the system for private users is that it
can be used to grant access to all the residents of a building
with a registered bluetooth mobile phone. Up to ten individuals
can be registered per console.
How Sorex wirelessKey works
A console is mounted on the inside of the door (invisible
from the outside). The handset is registered in the system
and assigned a unique 10-digit code. From then on the mobile
phone is identified by the Sorex console whenever it comes
into range. Once the device is verified, a radio signal
is sent to open the locking mechanism or activate the electronic
door motor. After the handset has been registered for the
first time, no data is exchanged making it impossible for
anyone to intercept the access code. The console can be
set to recognise mobile phones at distances of between 1
centimetre and 14 metres.
